Modern Coastal Home Office Reveal

I am so excited to reveal my modern coastal home office makeover to you guys! It was always my dream to work from home and have a beautiful office that I could make the magic happen in. It all started with me buying this gorgeous white Hemnes wood desk from Ikea! Fast forward three years and now I run my very own 6-figure online business. I have the pleasure of working with amazing clients and leading a team of women that are truly gifted! I spend so many of my days tapping away at that laptop you spotted on this beautiful white desk, and I could not be more thankful.

This space was intended to be an in-law suite or guest bedroom when we initially built our house. However, I love that the space is small and on the main floor. This makes it easier to design, without feeling like you have to fill the space with unnecessary items. It also allows me to feel like I am part of the action since it is on the first floor and yet still gives me privacy because I can always shut the door.

When I first thought about designing this room I knew I wanted it to be inspiring and tranquil. For me that meant bright whites, pops of pink and some coastal style to top it off! Check out more home office ideas HERE!

From there we kicked it off with our [least] favorite task, painting the walls! We went from typical builder beige, as I like to call it, to Alabaster white from Sherwin Williams. Josh and I knocked it out in two days while Beckam took his afternoon naps. We poured some Rose, cranked up the Google Home music and went to work. Honestly, had it not been for Josh’s help it would have taken me forever!

Even though I went with white paint for a clean, timeless look, imagine how fun a blue ceiling or some blue textiles would be in this space! From a design perspective, those pops of color would create an eye-catching focal point and balance out the neutral tones nicely.

Wood Desk

When I first envisioned the design process for this room, repurposing items I already had on hand was at the top of my list. How great is it to give new life to pieces you already own? The star of the show is, of course, my white desk (a white Hemnes desk from Ikea). The desk truly is the heart of any office space, and this one is a beauty! It’s spacious enough for all my work essentials and fits right in with the design aesthetic. I’m linking a similar desk option from Target that I think you’ll love.

Gold Arm Lamp

Next up is the gold arm lamp (similar). This lovely piece is another gem I borrowed from another spot in my home. Good lighting is essential in any space, and this lamp does an amazing job of brightening up the room. By positioning it thoughtfully, I’ve made the space warm and inviting.

Floor Mirror

The floor mirror (similar) was a pre-loved piece from my home as well. I positioned this beauty opposite a window to reflect natural light and make the room feel airier and more spacious. It also serves as a piece of functional art. I love how the wood frame blends seamlessly into the coastal theme with its stylish design.

Desk Chair

I plan to swap out the desk chair with something a little more coastal inspired. This grey one is one we purchased from West Elm when we lived in our apartment. While I love it, I’m not sure it fits the aesthetic of the room. Plus, the modern mid-century design has a slanted back and this isn’t great for your back when you are sitting for long time frames. Another option is to go with an ergonomic rattan chair. It would offer better back support, and the woven texture would add that perfect beachy touch I’m after.

Woven Rug

I was wondering around home goods, as I usually do if I have a few minutes to kill, when I saw this gorgeous woven rug (similar) for $39. I couldn’t believe the price for the size! The white and blue woven texture and cute little tassels have the perfect serene coastal feel I am going for. I knew I had to have it!

Decorative Pillow

Using the rug as inspo, I decided to bring in a blue and white striped pillow (similar) from another room—another great find from Home Goods. This decorative pillow ties the whole look together, adding the perfect pop of color. It’s funny how something as simple as a well-placed pillow can completely elevate the room’s vibe, making it cozy and inviting.

Storage Basket

I also added this Serena and Lily look a like basket for added storage. I love that it fits with the coastal theme while also being practical. It’s perfect for stashing throw blankets, extra pillows, or even some of my office supplies. The woven texture also adds an extra layer of interest to the room.

Open Shelves

There is something about the open shelves that tie the room together! For the long white shelves, I made my way to Ikea. They are the least expensive for the size that I could find. Originally I had planned on doing a natural color but my local store was sold out so white it was! Truthfully though, I love how it turned out! If you don’t have an Ikea nearby these open floating shelves are another great option that you’ll love just as much!

Shelf Decor

The next step was styling the shelves. I want the space to be functional I opted for baskets and jars. The key to open shelf styling is layers, varying heights and textures, and creating a pattern where the eye can easily flow from left to right. Most of the items I pulled from other places in my house where they weren’t really being used or didn’t look quite right. I added the rattan tray (similar) and clear glass jars (similar) for the finishing touch!

Artwork

Next up, I added a modern piece of art that brings a fun, contemporary feel and ties everything together. I’m also planning to add a gold picture light above the art print—just waiting for it to arrive! I can’t wait to see how it will spotlight the artwork. It’s those little details that truly make a space feel special.

Window Treatment

The final step was hanging the bamboo roman shade to complete the room. The natural texture of the bamboo shade adds a warm, earthy vibe that perfectly complements the coastal theme.

This room truly couldn’t have come together any better. I’m so excited with how every little detail adds its own charm to this Modern Coastal Home Office. What about you? Which finishing touches do you love the most in this reveal? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
